Electromagnetic railvolver

Inspired by Destiny's Thunderlord. I imagined that the cylinder is completely an 6-packed battery, and it's going to be replaced entirely when switching mag. What does it project? I have no idea. Except it has to be some sort of electrical energy, or magic.
